When I randomly visited IMDB and found SILO, I was immediately hooked. I see some conflicting opinions and I can relate to them. Here are my thoughts on the first season.
It is not an adaptation in the sense that it follows the plot
The dystopian genre offers a unique psychological perspective on human nature in hypothetical scenarios. My interest in the trilogy grew because Hughes managed to develop Orwellian ideas in a hypothetical sense, relevant to the modern world. Describing the development of the human psyche in dystopian scenarios is a difficult task. I think Hughes did a fantastic job, SILO captures most of these aspects in a refreshing way. It is based on the books, but of course it has to adapt to the audience in a dynamic world.
The acting of the main characters is phenomenal
However, the series manages to capture the atmosphere of a society living in a silo. Unlike the shallow narrative of other series, SILO offers a great combination of character development and atmospheric focus. The only problem I have with the series is the lack of atmospheric development. They spend a lot of screen time chasing and catching Juliette. They lack the atmospheric development of the silo as a society.
